In Awe Of My Home and my Community
As I stay home to isolate from the COV-19 virus, I practice mindfulness. All five senses are being honed gently and gradually as I appreciate my house and my community.
I strolled my neighborhood sidewalks during the Spring. I was in such awe of the beautiful neighborhood landscapes displaying bold and subtle colors of nature and schemes. Cactus flowers, aromatic lavender plants and wild flowers scattered among the landscapes. I felt the cool breeze on my face and soaked in all the beauty around me. Mountains that surround my neighborhood are like protective shields, powerful and muscular. The Arizona sunsets lit up the skies with their beautiful colors of coral, rose, peach and gray. Arizona has big skies.
As I sit in my back patio, I watch multi-colored birds nesting contently in my weeping willow tree. Precious hummingbirds amaze me with their speed and size, and flap their wings 70 times per second. An owl hooting in a tree drawing attention to my ears. What is the owl communicating?
As I walk inside, I look into my husband’s eyes brimming with unconditional love for me. Love that I never experienced growing up. A love that dares to risk, to get hurt, to be playful, to cry and to be courageous. A love that never fails. I hope he sees that same kind of love in me.
My relationships with my two brothers are ever evolving. Like an onion that is being carefully peeled one layer at a time. Each layer developing further trust and more vulnerability.
I am so blessed by the community I live in. My village is my family, friendships and the body of Christ. We are all mirrors of one another showing cracks and dings in the glass. We are all broken yet wonderfully and fearfully made by God. Long term friendships are the gold that never perishes in my life. My newer friends are budding relationships blooming with style, care and time.
My relationship with my Lord Jesus Christ is the essence of my soul and the purpose for my life. The body of Christ is made up of many members. As in the human form, some members are the hands that serve, the feet that walk alongside of someone who is hurting. The eyes that have a vision to see promise in the future, the ears that listen attentively to someone’s voice. A sacred place where the broken pieces of life can be healed. Jesus is the author and finisher of my life, the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end. His spirit lives within me guiding me and illuminating the truths of scripture to me. I am a citizen of heaven and my tent (body) is only temporary.
