The point being that even though we have survived a major health issue and worked hard to recover whatever you can, the potential for deterioration and loss of function as we continue to 'mature' is huge. One way to be pro-active is to begin to build a workout / activity program into your weekly or even daily routine. It's not a guarantee, but, it can provide positive results if performed properly and regularly.
Therapy, physical therapy in my case, never seems to end. Twenty one years after my spinal cord surgery, I am back into therapy [again] to try and maintain the function that still remains intact. The problem is, that if I don't keep working it, I'm gonna lose it [physical function that I have now].
